This isn’t the same purple clover you’ve seen in pastures! The native Purple Prairie Clover forms clumps of bright purple flowers. It’s a short flower that looks nice with other short prairie plants such as Butterfly Milkweed and Prairie Dropseed grass.

Design Tips

Purple Prairie Clover grows from a small clump and eventually has dozens of bright pink flower stems. Its seeds germinate easily around the parent plant. Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea) is short enough to place near borders and among other short plants. Clovers improve soil quality by capturing nitrogen from the air and putting it into the soil.

Great native plant choice for the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes grant program!
