Shade Garden Starter Pack - 18 pots (3")

This Garden Starter Pack includes 18 plants, a garden design, and instructions for planting and maintenance. The design and instructions are available here.
The Shade Garden Starter Pack is a combination of our favorite shade-loving plants. These native plants provide nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators. You can either make a small garden or you can add the plants to your existing landscaping—most of the plants form tidy clumps, just like the perennials you might already have in your landscaping.
We designed this garden with mostly short shade plants. These will fit in well with any landscaping plan. The bright red Cardinal Flower is a favorite nectar source for hummingbirds. This garden has a big flush of blooms in spring, starting with the blues of Jacob’s Ladder and Wild Blue Phlox combined with the yellow of Wood Betony. This is important because many of our urban landscapes need more spring flowers for pollinators. The Columbine and Wild Geranium provide reds and pinks in late spring, and both have a tendency to spread by seed and are bigger, robust plants.
This Starter Pack will fill a small area about 6ft x 6ft, or you can plant these plants throughout your existing landscaping.
Great native garden choice for the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes grant program!

Design Tips:
You can use these plants to plant a new 6ft x 6ft pollinator garden or you can add them to an existing gardens or landscaping.
We recommend completely removing any weeds or lawn grass before adding 3” of wood mulch (not included). Wood mulch reduces weeds, reduces watering to just 3-5 times the first year, and nearly doubles plant growth—well worth the extra work and cost.
