What are plugs? Plugs are plants grown in 72-cell trays; each soil plug is 1.6” wide x 3.2” deep. They are a great option for planting large gardens. We plant all of our own projects with plugs.

Shorts Aster is a fast growing and vigorous shade flower. By the second season it will grow to 3ft high and be covered in bee-loving blooms. It blooms in fall with light blue flowers. This aster does spread readily by seed and is more suitable for tall shade gardens and wild areas.

Design Tips

Plant Shorts Aster with other more aggressive shade plants that spread such as Zig zag Goldenrod and Pennsylvania Sedge. Shorts Aster (Aster shortii) is a good shade species for buckthorn removal projects because it spreads quickly by seed and can cover a lot of ground in a few years.
