Pussytoes is a very short groundcover that blankets the ground with its velvety leaves. It’s nearly identical to Prairie Pusstoes (Antennaria neglecta). It coexists nicely and surrounds other plants instead of out-competing them. Pussytoes can be used as a groundcover in alternative lawns, especially when mixed with grasses. Deer and rabbit-proof.

Design Tips

Pussytoes is a good groundcover, even on gravel or sandy soils. Can be used in an alternative lawn because it spreads across the ground the same way that strawberries do. Pussytoes (Antennaria plantaginifolia) is best when interplanted with clump grasses or other flowers.

Great native plant choice for the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes grant program!
